Eco-friendly Greaseproof Paper

2025-05-14

Eco friendly Greaseproof Paper is a biodegradable packaging material made from natural plant fibers such as wood pulp, bamboo pulp, or sugarcane bagasse, using fluorine free chemical coatings or biobased barrier technology. Its core function is to prevent oil penetration, while possessing environmental protection, safety, sustainability and other characteristics. It is widely used in food packaging, baking, fast food and takeaway industries, and has become a green substitute for traditional plastic coated paper and aluminum foil paper.

characteristic

Natural plant fiber substrate

Raw material source: Using renewable resources (such as FSC certified wood pulp, bamboo pulp, or agricultural waste sugarcane bagasse) as substrates to reduce dependence on petroleum based materials.

Data support: Renewable fibers account for over 90% of the raw materials, and the carbon emissions during production are reduced by 40% -60% compared to traditional plastic coated paper. For example, the carbon emissions from producing 1 ton of environmentally friendly oil resistant paper are about 1.2 tons of CO ₂ equivalent, while traditional plastic coated paper is 2.5 tons.

Fluorine free chemical coating technology

Environmentally friendly coating: using water-based acrylic acid, silicone oil or bio based polymers (such as chitosan, starch derivatives) instead of fluorinated compounds (such as PFOA, PFOS) to prevent toxic substances from migrating to food.

Data support: The fluorine content in the coating is below 5ppm (far below the EU REACH regulation limit of 20ppm), and the content of heavy metals (lead, cadmium, mercury, etc.) has not been detected. According to third-party testing, the migration of harmful substances after 24 hours of food contact meets FDA and GB 4806.8-2022 standards.

Efficient oil resistance performance

Barrier ability: Through micrometer level coating technology, a dense molecular film is formed on the surface of the paper, effectively blocking the penetration of oil, moisture, and seasonings.

Data support: The oil resistance level can reach Kit 12 (TAPPI T 559 standard), which means it can withstand continuous oil contact for 12 hours without penetration. For example, wrapping fried chicken chunks with an oil content of 30%, there will be no oil stains seeping out on the surface within 4 hours, which is better than ordinary oil proof paper (Kit 6-8 grade, oil starts seeping after 2 hours).

Degradability and compostability

Degradation cycle: Under industrial composting conditions, it can be completely degraded into carbon dioxide, water, and biomass within 6 months, in compliance with EN 13432 and ASTM D6400 standards.

Data support: Laboratory simulation composting tests show that the degradation rate reaches over 90% within 90 days, and the final residue is only inorganic salts and trace organic matter. Compared to traditional plastic coated paper (which takes over 200 years to degrade), environmentally friendly and oil resistant paper significantly reduces its environmental impact.

High temperature resistance and tear resistance

Thermal stability: The coating can withstand high temperatures of 180-220 ℃ and is suitable for baking, microwave heating, and oven reheating.

Data support: Heating continuously at 200 ℃ for 30 minutes results in no deformation, coking, or coating peeling of the paper. The tear resistance strength reaches 1.5-2.5 kN/m (GB/T 455-2002 standard), which is 1.5 times that of ordinary oil proof paper and can withstand heavy food packaging requirements.

printability

Printing effect: Supports environmentally friendly printing methods such as water-based ink and soy ink, with high pattern clarity and good color reproduction.

Data support: The printing adhesion reaches 5B (ASTM D3359 standard), and the ink detachment rate is less than 5% after 500 back and forth friction tests, meeting the visual requirements of brand packaging.

Application scenarios

Baking and Pastry Industry

Requirement: Packaging paper cupcakes, bread, cookies, and other foods with high oil or sugar content must be oil proof, moisture resistant, and heat-resistant.

Case: A chain bakery used environmentally friendly oil proof paper to package croissants. After reheating in a 180 ℃ oven for 5 minutes, the paper did not char and the oil penetration rate decreased to below 2%, resulting in a 20% increase in customer satisfaction.

Fast food and delivery industry

Requirement: Replace plastic burger packaging paper, french fry bags, and takeaway food box liners to reduce plastic pollution.

Case: An international fast food brand upgraded its hamburger packaging paper to environmentally friendly and oil proof paper, resulting in a reduction of 1.2 tons of plastic usage per store per month and an increase in packaging waste recycling rate from 15% to 75%.
